Episode 113: Tamara, Vicis Interimo
April 30, 2012 08:17 PM PDT
Welcome to episode 113. This week's review is on the 2005 movie 'Tamara'. A second short review is on the new movie 'The Cabin in the Woods' (with no spoilers). We'll be reviewing it again later with full spoilers. It's just too hard to talk about this movie while not giving anything away! Other short topics include 'Bandidas', the actress Katie Stuart, and the Wii Fit Plus.... Ok, so this week's crawling chaos segment is a bit lame. Tamara (2005) R, 94 minutes

Short topics include the movie 'X-Men: First Class', the animated 'Green Lantern' series, and more about 'Silent Hill: Shattered Memories' for the Wii. 'Bernie' finds his way into this week's Laid to Rest segment, as we discuss the origin of the dance and the scene that started it all! The Titanic is mentioned as well, as it is this week's Crawling Chaos topic. Thanks for joining us! Husk: 2010 (R) 83 minutes

Welcome to episode 111! This week we discuss the movie 'Godsend', which we agree is more of a sci-fi thriller than anything else. This movie has quality performances, but maybe falls short in other areas. Our Garbage in/Garbage out segment features 'The Green Lantern', 'A Woman, a Gun, and a Noodle Shop', and the family movies 'Nanny McPhee Returns; and 'Gnomeo and Juliet'. Madsaxxon has started playing 'Silent Hill:Shattered Memories' for the Wii, so we have some things to say about it... and the Crawling Chaos segment returns with a reference to the 1980's movie 'Weekend at Bernie's'. We'd like to thank Slug again for joining us last week, and look forward to him joining us again soon! You can find a link to his podcast below, as well as a link to the Dolls of Despair's podcast, where they interview Bill Oberst Jr. Thanks for joining us this week, and please join us next time for the movie 'Husk'! Welcome to episode 110! This week we have a very special guest join us... Slug from the Slugcast! It was great having him on the show and discussing the Vincent Price classic 'The Abominable Dr. Phibes'. We look forward to his return in a few weeks when we discuss the sequel 'Dr Phibes Rises Again'. Short mentions in this episode includes the movies 'Blade Runner', 'Team America: World Police', and the classic 1970's TV show 'Ark 2'. Our Garbage In/Garbage Out segment includes 'Splice', 'The Wizard of Oz', and 'The Big Bang Theory'. Lori's Crawling Chaos returns this week as well... thanks for the inspiration, Slug! Welcome to episode 109! This week we review the new 2011/2012 movie 'Silent House', which is in theatres now. This movie had some unique qualities, as well as an excellent performance by Elizabeth Olsen. We also can't help but discuss how rude people are in movie theatres, and how it's almost not even worth going! Other short topics include the TV shows 'Face-Off' (season 2), 'Monster Man', 'Missing', 'Alcatraz', and 'Person of Interest'... are these worth a watch, or no? One thing we agree on is the Stephen King story 'N.' which can be seen and heard on You tube (find the link below). Thanks for joining us this week! We hope that our sound quality issues are behind us, and that this episode is enjoyable. Please join us next week for a special episode featuring Slug from the Slugcast podcast. Welcome to episode 108! This week we review the 2004 Japanese film 'Marebito', by director Takashi Shimizu (Ju-On, The Grudge). We also watched Diary of a Wimpy Kid this week, since last week we mentioned the sequel. Other short topics include the TV show 'Ink Master', and the quirky movie 'Adaptation' starring Nicolas Cage and Meryl Streep. These generate some discussion on reality TV shows and whether or not Nicolas Cage is a good actor (he really is!). In the next couple weeks we'll be having Slug (from the Slugcast) join us for a review of Vincent Price's 'Abominable Dr. Phibes'. We're looking forward to it! ... Thanks for joining us this week! After two weeks off the air, we've returned to discuss Wes Craven's 'My Soul to Take'. We have a HUGE 'garbage in, garbage out' segment this week which includes the movies 'Rocky Balboa', 'Michael Moore Hates America', 'Say Anything', 'A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon', 'The Fearless Vampire Killers', 'Megamind', and 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2'. We also enjoyed watching the 2000 mini series 'Dune' this week, so talk a little bit about that, as well as the anime 'Black Butler'. We look forward to having a special guest in the next couple weeks (Slug from the Slugcast), so please watch for that special episode! Thanks for joining us this week. My Soul to Take(2010) R: Some 15 years after the presumed death of a vicious serial killer, children whose birthdays match his supposed "deathday" start to disappear. Welcome to episode 106! This week's movie is the 1977 film 'Rabid' by David Cronenberg. Other movies discussed include 'Lost in Translation', 'Underworld: Awakening', and 'Rio'. Animes are also a short topic this week as we mention 'Darker Than Black', 'Megazone 23', and how 'Fullmetal Alchemist' and 'Cowboy Beebop' raised the bar. The TV show 'Alcatraz' is another topic of discussion, as we try to decide how we feel about it. What makes a tv show or movie really good? We agree on one thing for sure... characters that you care about. Thanks for joining us this week! We appreciate it. Rabid(1977) R
saves her life, but side effects leave her thirsty for blood -- and give her a ghastly capability to extract it. Worse, her victims become just as bloodthirsty! Short topics include 'Wall-E', 'A.I.', '28 Days Later', and Cillian Murphy (Lori had to squeeze in some comments). We thank Horrorphilia Jason again for recommending 'Sunshine' and share comments from Ken Calloway, leader of the super awesome band 'Cockfight Club'. Our Garbage In/Garbage out segment is longer than usual this week as we discuss Machete, Bag of Bones, Red Riding Hood, Repo Men, Sucker Punch, Source Code, and The Adjustment Bureau. Welcome to episode 97! This week's movie is 'Insidious', the 2011 movie from the makers of Paranormal Activity and Saw. This movie was a nice surprise for both of us! Short topics include discussion of the movies 'Temple Grandin', 'How to Train Your Dragon', 'Bean', and the new Science Channel series 'Prophets of Science Fiction'. Other short bits include 'Fringe' character Lincoln Lee, and actor Cillian Murphy (that's pronounced 'Killian'!). Stay tuned to the end of the show after the final music, as we make some additional comments regarding the title of the movie. Our 'laid to rest' segment didn't have much... just a confirmation that we didn't care for last week's movie! Lori (that's me) mentions once again the totally awesome Harry Potter fanfiction 'Rise of the Phoenix'. Our 'Garbage In- Garbage Out' segment is short, as we haven't had the time this week to watch many movies or shows. We are all over the place this week; we recovered all that we could from the show we recorded with Matt Brown from the Slugclast. This week ‘garbage in/ garbage out’ we cover Failure to Lunch, The Beaver, Grand Illusion, the history of magic. (We talk about how much that ‘bummed’ me out and Lori getting dragged on stage for a magic act.) We talk about some TV shows Person of Interest and Terra Nova. I can’t even start to list all the things we cover with slug, I had to cut the call to back to just 30 minutes that mostly was about the movie… Case 39 A social worker fights to save a girl from her abusive parents, only to discover that the situation is more dangerous than she ever expected. We also talk a little bit about the 2010 Nightmare on Elm Street and the documentary 'The Most Hated Family in America'. Thanks for joining us! Altitude (2010) R Kaare Andrews makes his feature-film debut with this supernatural tale about a brash, young pilot (Jessica Lowndes) who takes her friends (Julianna Guill, Ryan Donowho, Landon Liboiron and Jake Weary) for a small-plane joyride, only to get lost in a deadly storm. Welcome to episode 90! This week we discuss the made-for-SciFi movie 'Saint Sinner'. This was a 2002 movie and the story was written by Clive Barker. Sounds promising, doesn't it? Sadly, it was not good. This week we tried to keep the show as close to 30 minutes as we could... as a result, we have very few short topics. Madsaxxon suggests watching Demon Knight or Warlock and Lori makes a quick mention of the new season of Survivor. We usually find movie trailers on Youtube, but were unable to do so this week. Instead, we've posted a 'Saint Sinner' fan video. Thanks for joining us! Couldn't find a trailer, so...

Short topics include a suggestion from special effects artist Mike Regan for us to check out the movie 'Mr. Brooks', and a reminder to the Harry Potter fans to check out 'Rise of the Phoenix', which is an outstanding fanfiction that offers an amazing alternate ending to the book series. 30 Days of Night: Dark Days Trailer...

Welcome to episode 87! This week we discuss the 2009 remake of The Stepfather. Sadly, this version is missing the magic found in the original. Jason from the Horrorphilia podcast sent in his review of this movie, so you can hear that here as well. We also get to talk about the dark and gritty movie 'The Proposition', starring Guy Pearce and Emily Watson, which we really enjoyed. For our listeners who are Harry Potter fans, we share an awesome fanfiction which picks up at the end of Deathly Hallows. It begins as an alternate ending, with Voldemort winning the battle and Harry pronounced dead. This is a darker, more mature story... it's a must read. We want to thank all of our new listeners for tuning in... and a big hello and thank you to our two new listeners in Belguim! We'd also like to thank those of you who joined our Vicis Interimo fan page on Facebook this week! Sorry Mike I missed reading this on air... Mike R.

Welcome to episode 85. This week we cover the original 'The Stepfather', starring Terry O'Quin. Once again, we go way over our goal of 30 minutes... and we've decided it is because Lori talks WAY too much. The Stepfather(1986) R In this acclaimed thriller classic, Jerry Blake (Terry O'Quinn) expects only one thing from his family -- perfection -- and when he doesn't get it, he doesn't just get angry, he goes mad: completely, psychopathically, homicidally mad. After brutally dispatching one clan, Jerry sets up shop with a single mom (Shelley Hack) and her brooding teen daughter (Jill Schoelen), who immediately suspects there's something not quite right about her dear old stepdad. Lori's Crawling Chaos this week features a short discussion about new additions to the family, and short topics include out-dated video game systems, future episodes, and the movie 'Eat, Pray, Love'. Army Of Darkness: Bound in human flesh and inked in blood, the ancient Necronomicon, or "Book of the Dead," transports department store clerk Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his 1973 Oldsmobile into England's Dark Ages. Never mind the movie this week I think the best part of this weeks show is Lori's crawling Chaos!. LOL “The Ivy League nude posture photos”. We go long but the last five mins are music. This weeks movie is Vampire Journals.
Vengeful vampire Zachary (David Gunn) hunts down the night creature responsible for his girlfriend's death in this dark tale. After Ash kills Zachary's girlfriend, Zachary must come up with an airtight plan to murder Ash, but it won't be easy; Ash is a vampire with powers stronger than the "average Joe" vampire. When Zachary learns of Ash's infatuation with Sofia (Kirsten Cerre), he must decide whether to use the femme fatale in his risky plan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivy_League_nude_posture_photos The Ivy League nude posture photos were taken in the 1940s through the 1970s of all incoming freshmen at certain Ivy League and Seven Sisters colleges, ostensibly to gauge the rate and severity of rickets, scoliosis, and lordosis in the population. Welcome to our big bad show! I mean that in the worst possible way. LOL the show is way over our 30 min limit and it sounds bad! You know how they say caveat emptor, buyer beware well that’s this show, you are getting it ‘as is’. We will try to do better next week, but as you will hear in the show I have tons of schoolwork to do. The segment of the show we recorded last week should be good. I did try to clean up some of the audio, but I can’t get to it all today. Hope you will forgive us and come on back next week to listen again. This week we talk more about the Subspecies series. This time number 4 Bloodstorm. Other movies we talk about are, Salt, (Disney’s) A Christmas Carol, the new Pirates movie. Ice disc is what we talk about this how in the crawling chaos segment. That is all this and more if you can put up with the poor audio. Subspecies 4:

Most of the music this show was provided by Cockfight Club! Well, we love our Full Moon Movies, and we are back to talk about Subspecies II. Other things we talk about are Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and the book ‘The Ruins’ by Scott Smith. We talk more about how I don’t find most comedy funny these days (…and its not because I am offended by it …its just not that funny). We also talk about some other podcasts that you should be listening to.
Subspecies II: Bloodstone (1993) R: When Transylvanian vampire Radu (Anders Hove) settles a dynastic rivalry by killing his brother, American student Michelle (Denice Duff) escapes the castle with a bite on the neck -- and the bloodstone, a mysterious relic crucial to Radu's survival. Welcome to episode 72! This week’s movie is Alone in the Dark. Oh man, does this movie suck! Three good actors stuck in a bad movie or was it bad direction? It’s a Uwe Boll movie so that may tell you what to expect right there. We cover these topics and more in this weeks show. There is some small talk about how awesome Mad Max was as well as my childhood love of Star Blazers this and more in our fun filled episode. (…ok, that may be overstating the truth a little, but I hope you will still listen Alone in the Dark; Private sleuth Edward Carnby (Christian Slater) specializes in weird supernatural phenomena, and he'll be forced to work with his archaeologist ex-girlfriend (Tara Reid) to defeat the demonic ancient Abskani tribe, which is set to wreak havoc on Earth. Welcome to episode 71! This week’s movie is the 2000 thriller 'The Watcher'. It's not really a horror movie, but we figured we'd give it a try anyway. The movie stars Keanu Reeves and James Spader, along with Marisa Tomei. March 29, 2011 09:18 AM PDT
Sorry this show is so late, we have had a lot happen in the last two weeks. Some good =) some bad =( , but we will talk about that later. This weeks show is Hellraiser, this may not be our best show but I hope it was worth the wait. If you haven’t see this one yet, its Clive Barker's directing debut follows the tale of a couple (Andrew Robinson, Clare Higgins) who move into an old house and discovers a hideous creature (Oliver Smith) -- the man's half-brother (and his wife's former lover) -- hiding upstairs. Having lost his earthly body to three demons, the man's been brought back to life by a drop of blood on the floor. Soon, he's forcing his former mistress to bring him human sacrifices to complete his body. Not the best synopsis lifted from netflix but we talk about that in the show. We also talk about Poyno, Shutter Island, Unicorns and more… Welcome to Jaymz Eberly's Portfolio

Short topics this week include the movies 'Contact' and 'The Secret of N.I.M.H', and we also talk more about the movies we found influential in past decades.

This weeks episode features the movie '30 Days of Night'. We had a lot of fun taping this episode, however, it made it a challenge to edit. We were in a super silly mood! When a month long period of darkness sets in on the tiny Alaskan town of Barrow, the locals are visited by a flock of bloodthirsty vampires who are eager to take advantage of the no-sun zone, prompting the town sheriff (Josh Hartnett) to act fast to save the day. Melissa George, Ben Foster and Danny Huston co-star in this horror offering from producer Sam Raimi based on the popular comic book miniseries by Steve Niles. Episode 37, Vicis Interimo : 7th Moon
August 04, 2010 07:01 PM PDT
This weeks episode we talk about the Ghost House underground picture 'Seventh Moon'. While the movie was just Ok for both of us, we really enjoyed the extras that are featured on the DVD. For those interested in other cultures and the legends that come with them... we feel the disc as a whole is really worth checking out! …its sad just one week after saying how I wanted to be like mail order zombie and be sure to get a show out every week, we miss posting on Saturday night. I guess it could be measured in how many hours I am late posting this but, what ever the point is we are still getting the show out to you. It’s been a rough week or two at my ‘real’ job and Lori is working HARD on school. I can’t imagine if we did a big show. Now that we are done with it, it doesn’t sound to bad. I hope you enjoy the show.

May 15, 2010 09:25 PM PDT
In a small anywhere town in any state in America, two young boys- quiet Will Halloway and somewhat rebellious Jim Nightshade-enjoy the ever-shortening days of autumn. When the boys hear about a strange traveling carnival from a lightning rod salesman, they decide to see what it is all about-but Will is fearful, as most carnivals end their tours after Labor Day. When the ominous Mr. Dark, the Illustrated Man, rides into town on a dark midnight, setting up his massive carnival in a matter of seconds, the boys are both thrilled and terrified. It seems to be just another carnival at first, but it is not before long that the forces of darkness themselves are manifesting from the haunting melodies of the carousel-which can change your age depending on which way you ride it-and the glaring Mirror Maze. With his collection of freaks and oddities, such as the Fat Man, Mr. Electro, and the blind Dust Witch, Dark intends to take control of the town and seize more innocent souls to damn. It will take all the wit and hope of the two boys to save their families and friends, with aid from an unlikely ally-Will's father, the town librarian, who understands more than anyone else that "something wicked this way comes."
